Burrito Box Exterior

885 9th Avenue
New York, NY 10019
(212) 489-6889

Measurements: 10” circumference; 6” length (larger than average)

Organic Seitan Burrito $8.55 after tax.

Pinto Bean Burrito $7.85 after tax.

Considered the best burrito in NYC by some, Burrito Box is certainly the biggest.  Veggie options abound, but I’d stick with the Pinto Bean Burrito.  Lacking in distinct character, but still better than most of what you will find in Manhattan.

I’m surprised that most consider this the best burrito in NYC. It’s passable but nothing I’d go out of my way for. Truthfully, the best burritos in NYC are at the chains. I can still remember how ecstatic I was when the first Chipotle opened in Manhattan. Of course, I haven’t been to Chipotle once since moving to LA.

Back to NYC — I’ve tried most of the suspects. Downtown Bakery on the LES and Pio Maya in the Village are OK, as is the Big Enchilada, which you reviewed in another post. La Paloma in Hell’s Kitchen is also decent. Some swear by El Paso Taqueria (two locations on the UES) but I was underwhelmed.

Come to think of it, the best burrito in NYC may be the laffa wrap at Olympic Pita LOL!
